Self-Employment Assistance
From 1 July 2022, Self-Employment Assistance replaces the NEIS program.
Self-Employment Assistance helps people to become financially independent by starting and running a small business. Birdifi Bridge provides a range of services including: Exploring Self-Employment Workshops, Small Business Training, Business Plan Development, Small Business Coaching, Business Health Checks and Business Advice Sessions.
Providing you meet the eligibility requirements, these services are free. You can do all of them, or select only the ones you want to do.
Whether you are dreaming of entrepreneurship, have a great idea, or have an existing small business that needs help to keep it viable, Birdifi Bridge can help you. We will work with you to determine which service(s) is right for you and get you started.
Self-Employment Assistance
Services
Birdifi Bridge offers 6 free Self-Employment Assistance Services for eligible individuals and businesses.
You can do all of them or only select the ones you want to do.
Exploring Self- Employment Workshop
This Workshop provides information about self-employment and helps you generate and test your business idea. It is delivered over 25hrs and will help you make an informed decision as to whether you want to pursue self-employment.
Small Business
Coaching
Connecting you to a business mentor for up to 12 months, who will give you guidance, coaching and other business support. If you're eligible you can also receive a Self-Employment allowance for up to 39 weeks, and Self-Employment Rental Assistance for 26 weeks.
Small Business
Training
Small Business Training provides you with the skills you need to start and run a small business. You can access accredited training and choose to do a shorter skillset or a longer certificate lll or lV in Entrepreneurship and New Business.
Business Advice
Sessions
Business Advice Sessions can offer targeted advice relating to your business idea or existing business.
Each session is delivered over the course of an hour, and you can access a maximum of 2 sessions a year.
Business Plan Development
Preparing a viable business plan can help your business succeed by identifying strategies for success and forecasting your business cash flow. We can then assess your business plan and provide independent feedback on the likely viability of your business.
Business Health
Checks
Business Health Checks help business owners assess how their existing business is running and to find ways to improve its viability. A business health check is delivered over 3 hours in a one-on-one session, and you can access one health check each year.
Who Can Apply for
Self-Employment Assistance
To be eligible to access Self-Employment Assistance you must:

be at least 15 years of age
-
not be prohibited by law from working in Australia
-
not be an overseas visitor on a working holiday visa or an overseas student studying in Australia

not be an undischarged bankrupt.
Additional service specific eligibility requirements may apply. If you’re already self-employed or have a business idea, your local Self-Employment Assistance provider Birdifi Bridge will work with you to assess if your business or business idea is eligible.
Birdifi Bridge offers Self Employment Assistance Services within the Somerset region. The Somerset region includes the Brisbane CBD, Caboolture and Kilcoy
